Calendar mats

NOVEMBER CALENDAR RUG

HOOKED POPPIES and LAUNDRY
NOVEMBER and  a time to REMEMBER
  is here . . ..
Pictured here ,  is  the eleventh of the  calendar mats done for the fall 2009 Shelburne Vermont  rug show . . .
The Montreal group  picked as our Theme ''LAUNDRY LINES'' . .This little mat was hooked by Maureen Rowe of Montreal . .. after researching the subject ,Maureen was touched by a photo she saw of  a tank with a laundry line hung out . . . an everyday event  for most of us . . .
well ,I was sad to learn. .. that in many cities  one can not by law, hang ones laundry out . . . how ,why  ?   is that . . . . . .
I do remember my mother thinking that anyone who hug out laundry on a SUNDAY was, well as she said,   '' UNCOUTH''  . .

This  rug was part of the calendar made in Montreal for the Green Mountains rug show at Shelburne Vermont museum last fall .There were 10 groups in all. . . .this project was organized by Burma Cassidy of Rochester VT.THANKS again Burma!!!!

The theme was  ''Laundry Lines' for the group. . .thus the work clothes in the sunshine on the line . . . .Heidis sons helped with the cow and the chicken on skateboard! Heidi and her  husband have an organic dairy farm near Williamstown Ontario.
HAPPY CANADA DAY  to all!!

Its a JANUARY mat again

What a  beautiful little JANUARY mat  hooked by Peg Irish!!!!
The details are simple but so effective!I dont know if you can see but the words are either hooked higher or they are  embroidered on top . . . thus  they are raised a bit. The bull rushes are also raised and fuzzie . . . .the ice is wonderful . .
a good example of the use of directional hooking to express a feeling. . .and there is that little chair to rest those sore ankles! Well done Peg!
This little piece is 14 '' X 14'' and was part of the calendar project for the Shelburne  Vermont Green Mountains guild rug show  in November  2009.
